Feeling lots of anxiety over applying for a mortgage? You don't have to be. I have close professional relationships with a lot of lenders in Rancho Santa Margarita, and they've helped me learn some things that will make the loan application process very easy.

1 – Compose a list of questions about your loan program

If you do not fully realize the pros and cons of the various financing options, make sure you bring a list of questions with you. I or one of my trusted lenders can assist you with understanding the advantages and disadvantages of both programs, because it is a challenge to know the differences between both fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.

2 – Determine when to lock

When you lock in the rate, it signifies that a mortgage lender keeps to the mortgage interest rates for the loan – typically at the time the loan application is received. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate at any time between application and issuance of closing documents. Those who prefer to float presume the interest rates will drop in the near future. 3 – Determine if you want to pay additional points to reduce your rate

When you elect to pay additional points to lower the rate of your mortgage loan, you'll do so by paying for them in cash at the time of closing. Each point is 1 percent of the mortgage loan.
